Título de la conferencia: “Integer Optimization in Forestry & Conservation”
Abstract
In this seminar, I will review some of the most interesting and challenging integer optimization problems that arise from forestry and conservation. I will highlight some of my modeling & algorithmic contributions, although the focus is going to be on open problems. Optimization modeling of spatiotemporal relations, endogenous structures, nonlinearities, decoupled decision systems and multiple conflicting objectives are examples of what I will cover.
Not too long ago, the use of binary or integer structures in optimization have been restricted to theoretical or illustrative examples. Advances in computing, algorithms and hardware have made these tools increasingly accessible for real life applications. I believe that so far we have barely even scratched the surface of what these tools can do. I hope that my talk will inspire others to tackle complex problems of great importance to humanity.
