Between July 10 and 14, our country hosted the 23rd version of the IFORS (International Federation of Operational Research Societies) world conference and in this event that brought together more than 1,000 researchers and students dedicated to Operations Research (OR), our Operations group could not be missing. Thus, during the week that this congress lasted, hosted at the University of Chile and the Pontificia Universidad Católica and organized by the Chilean Institute of Operations Research (ICHIO) and the Institute of Complex Engineering Systems (ISCI) -the latter housed in our department-, several professors and students from our department gave talks presenting their work on OR.

“How OR has Impacted Decisions in Natural Resources”
It should be noted that Rafael Esptein (from our Operations Management group), was co-chairman of the organizing committee of this congress, together with Jorge Vera, professor of the Department of Industrial Engineering and Systems of the UC, while Susana Mondschein (also from our department) participated in her capacity as president of the Chilean Institute of Operations Research (ICHIO).
