supply chain planning for the forest product industry or challenges
Supply chain planning in the forest product industry is raising many interesting challenges mainly because of the non homogeneity of the raw material, its availability, the typical divergent manufacturing processes of this industry as well as the combined spot and contract buying behaviors of the customers. These industrial characteristics force the development of new supply chain models. In this presentation, we will present the business units composing the forest product supply chain; discuss their interaction and actual planning modes. We will explore a series of new problems and applications dealing with strategic design, tactical planning and operational planning. Applications to the pulp and paper, lumber and hardwood furniture industries will be discussed. Finally, new research challenges for industrial engineers will be presented as well as new business models.
